I've been hearing a lot about the tone of politics, or the political climate. I've been hearing about Kathy Griffin and about hostile townhall meetings, and i want to make my views clear, fuck them

 

"But wait" says the nytimes reading intelligentsia lib on my shoulder, "Healthy conversations are the backbone of democracy and we're losing that! We're losing all the ability to converse and compromise"

listen I voted for Obama, or would have, because of all the bipartisan nonsense, and believed that that was what had to be fixed for a long time. But I am so sick of losing, of not even being able to talk about issues that are important to me because it is unpalatable to conservatives. We've been nice, and as a result a small minority who doesn't give a shit about the political climate get all the damn soundbites. You want to talk about hostile politics? Pulling out of the paris accords, the bills being put before congress to slash environmental regulations, slash the public safety net, slash healthcare everything else, these bills will hurt my children when I have them, I will be giving them a world ravaged by the changing climate in which they will have to work till they're dead to afford the costs of healthcare, and they'll need that healtcare because of all the health problems from living in a post-apocolyptic wasteland. Trump is hurting my children, and so are the spineless republicans who support him, this is not a fucking political issue this is personal and I say we all act as mad as we are and shout down any cowards or idiots who stand in our way.

first of all, who cares, no one likes this guy. second of all, 45 has already dragged the office of the president through the mud. I mean the tweets alone are bad enough to say "he doesn't respect the role of president" and then there's Russia. Let me tell you about Russia, either the man is a traitor to our country, or he's a fucking idiot who didn't bother to learn the laws of the goddamn land he was trying to lead, and who doesn't bother to listen to the smart people who do know those laws and that level of willful ineptitude is just as insulting to the office of president. I'll worry about people shitting on the president when he stops shitting on the country. This isn't a political thing, I just want him to act professional.

 

Guys, this is our future we're talking about, the future of us, real people. Lets force politicians to deal with the real, angry people, who they're fucking over. It's not like I'm advocating for violence, I'm just saying, when you see a politician who is actively destroying the environment and the health of your children, you don't have to act like they're your boss, you are the boss of them.

Reading the Syllabus

Okay first post, I guess I'll just describe what it's gonna be. So I spend 40 hours a week in a chair in box in a large dim room within a squat brick building by the side of a highway, staring at a computer and trying to keep despair at bay. While there I listen to podcasts, news and socialist punditry mostly, occasionally conservative pundits to try and get a sense of how the other side thinks, anyway, when my opinions bubble over I write them in an email and send it to my personal email. single issue voting

My dad is an episcopal priest, who does a lot of work in interfaith dialogue. He always tells me that he finds it much easier to talk to members of a different religion than to non-affiliated ‘spiritual’ people or agnostics. His point was that people of faith understand each other, even if their religions are different; it doesn’t matter what you believe just believe in something, that was his take away. This same philosophy applies to politics and social issues. I’ve been told that one issue of the left is single-issue activists and single-issue protesting, but I don’t think that’s true. The issue is the lack of dialogue and cooperation across these single issues. If you believe passionately in women’s right to choose than your energy should be focused there, because that is where your energy does the most good. Okay let’s open with two facts about myself. 1) I am a white man, from the middle class, a child of priviledge, and like all priviledged people I hate to admit it. 2) I’m not planning to agonize too hard about how to put things (because I have no readers so wth) so I’m probably gonna say something racist or idiotic or both and I can only hope that the context will show that I’m not that terrible.
