The official line out of the white house over this whole
comey thing is basically “what’s the problem? I thought all you liberals hated
this guy” and strangely enough it’s making me think again about the democratic
primary. Because both represent a flagrant abuse of power? Yes, but for another
reason, both show those in power grossly oversimplifying the politics of the
people. So here’s the trump administration saying, ‘liberals hate comey because
of the election, so nobody’s gonna care if I get rid of him’ and meanwhile
liberals all over the country are saying ‘ya we had an issue with him but that
doesn’t mean you can do whatever your fascist ass wants.’ Turns out that details
matter, context matter, and that the public is capable of having complex
opinions. Perhaps this is a new phenomenon as people are paying more attention.
So the democratic primary, remember when all the old pundits and journalists
were confused about young people supporting Bernie Sanders, because young
people were supposed to be all about equality and stuff and why would they
favor an old white man over the first woman president. Aren’t young people
supposed to be all about upsetting the status quo? Gee these millenials just
don’t know what they want. Well it turns out the young people do know what they
want, free healthcare, free education, closing the income gap, a more just
society. What we didn’t want was more pretty words and ugly wars, even if those
words were from the first woman president. Basically, I’m sick of identity
politics and I’m sick of politicians thinking I’m stupid.
Okay let’s open with two facts about myself. 1) I am a white man, from the middle class, a child of priviledge, and like all priviledged people I hate to admit it. 2) I’m not planning to agonize too hard about how to put things (because I have no readers so wth) so I’m probably gonna say something racist or idiotic or both and I can only hope that the context will show that I’m not that terrible. Okay let’s get started. In my thinking and speaking about race I have always tried to be objective, but I think it is important to also be subjective. I have been wanting to write about my personal experience in this racist world as a white person, but been afraid to because most people that do that are racists. But I think that by examining my own racism and experience I may be able to shed some light on the motivations of racists in general. This idea is supremely important to me because as long as the narrative is woke poor and middle-class people versus racist poor and middle c
